LISTEN LIVE RIGHT NOW!

Deep Grooves Radio is a brand new radio station that approaches album-oriented programming in its own unique way.

1.  All Vinyl, All the Time.  Rather than gathering our music from every imaginable form of media, Deep Grooves Radio has chosen to source all our songs directly from real vinyl records…and not just any vinyl, but exclusively from records that were mastered during the analog recording era.* That assures there's a friendly, familiar, "vinyl warmth" to our sound. The songs are "dubbed" using premium turntable equipment, directly to ultra high quality digital files that preserve the pleasing "organic" sound of original vinyl.

2.  Designed For Extended Listening.  Rather than playing a lot of really high energy "power chord" rock tracks, we've chosen to take a less aggressive approach to our programming. There's still an edge to some of our songs, but we're not a hard rock station. The overall music mix is more relaxing and less fatiguing…so you can enjoy it for hours on end.

3.  Uncharted Territory.  For every song that ever made it onto the pop charts, consider how many were passed over; not because they weren't great songs, but because they weren't "formula" enough. Out there in the vinyl wilderness are thousands upon thousands of terrific songs that most people have never heard. That's our focus.** We're out after the selections that were, as we like to put it, "too good for pop radio."

4.  Established Artists.  While some of the the songs we play may be unfamiliar to you, the artists will not be. Nearly all the performers we feature have had popular commercial success, so you'll recognize their names. But we reserve the right, from time to time, to also surprise you with artists the pop world has no idea bout.

5.  The Blend. Some album-oriented radio stations have songs that sound great individually, but when combined into a playlist, clash badly. That makes for a jolting, train wreck of a listening experience. So, a big part of the effort we put into Deep Grooves Radio is in choosing music that, despite involving a lot of variety, flows well together. If a song is just too far out-of-sync with the rest of the music in our format, it doesn't make the cut.

THE WHAT, WHERE, HOW

"What" Prompted its Creation

The genesis of this project was several years back, when former radio-guy-turned-voiceover-guy Dane Scott "rediscovered" the pleasure of vinyl records and began growing his personal record collection, with a focus on his favorite categories: classic rock, progressive rock, progressive jazz, and fusion. With the help of his son, Braeden (who excels at vinyl restoration), they began recording high quality archive copies of every album, in case the discs should ever become damaged. At some point during that process, it occurred to Dane to begin extracting particular songs from the albums and building them into a unique radio station format.

As music selection began, a theme began to develop, seemingly of its own accord. Rather than taking on the character of the typical classic rock or progressive rock format, the songs that were being selected tended to be just a little less aggressive; still edgy and unique, but not as harsh or in-your-face. It occurred to Dane this might be a theme worth pursuing intentionally, since it would provide an alternative to most of what's out there in this radio niche.

The "Where" and the "How"

In the 2000s, Dane developed a radio automation system called "The TuneTracker System," which will be used to broadcast the music on Deep Grooves Radio, interspersed by his recorded intros of the artists, albums, and titles. The broadcast stream will be relayed to listeners using an online service called, "MixCloud," which will make it available to listeners using phones (using the MixCloud app), tablets, and computers.

We're incredibly blessed to have a first class staff of volunteer show hosts who make every day extra special. They're passion for the music we play shines through during their shows, as they share fascinating tidbits about the artists, the albums, and the songs we feature on Deep Grooves Radio.

* A live or extended "album version" of a charted song may find its way onto our station. Also, if a pop song has all the earmarks of a great "album track," but somehow managed to sneak its way onto the pop charts, it may also be added.

** To be completely accurate, nearly all our music is sourced from analog-era vinyl. We'll sometimes break our own rules to bring you a more recent recording by one of your favorite artists, even if it was recorded in the digital era.
